Need a break, want to get away from it all? The luxury hotel Tivoli Marina Vilamoura with its two Purobeach Clubs may be a good idea. I have spent a few wonderful days in the Algarve with its breathtaking beaches. April is a good time - not too hot, not too many people. Ideal for long walks on the beach or playing a round of golf. 

Yes, I am a Purobeach Lover!

Last year I have stayed at the Purohotel in Palma de Mallorca. I enjoyed the hotel and the adjacent beach club so much that it was pretty clear that I wanted to get to know more about this chain. So, off to the Algarve this spring. There is no Purohotel in Portugal, just two Purobeach Clubs next to the elegant Tivoli Marina Vilamoura.

Tivoli Marina Vilamoura - just perfect for a worry-free Vacation

The Tivoli Marina Vilamoura is a pretty big hotel - don`t miss to have a look at it standing in front of the main entrance. You will be surprised. The location of this luxury hotel could hardly be any better. It sits between two marvelous sandy beaches (Praia da Marina and Praia da Falesia with those iconic rocks) and the elegant marina with many chic bars and restaurants. And it offers all amenities you can expect from a modern luxury hotel, including a wonderful service rendered by very friendly staff. All in all – perfect prerequisites for an easygoing vacation under the Portuguese sun. Holidaymakers come here to enjoy the beaches, a worry-free life in a modern, well-maintained environment with lots of green, palm trees in particular. Vilamoura is famous for its many golf courses – also in winter when it is a lot of fun to play in a very moderate climate. Don`t expect cultural highlights – if you are into that, consider a combination with Lisbon or other parts of this beautiful country on the edge of Europe. Should you wish to get a taste of the local life, visit the fish market in Quarteira – a small city that is a 10 min cab drive away from Vilamoura.

I loved the impressive lobby of the Tivoli Marina Vilamoura – bright, puristic and with interesting modern art here and there. Everything seems big in this hotel, including the park-like garden with a giant pool and direct access to one of the best sandy beaches I have ever seen in Europe. The rooms a very comfy, mine had a big „Mandala“ ( I will explain this later) over my bed and a pool and sea view second to none. The little espresso machine was a nice detail that I really appreciated! I did my morning stretch on my balcony, taking a deep breath filled with clean air – gosh, I could stay here for weeks!

Purobeach Vilamoura - Poolside or Beachfront?

There are two Purobeach Clubs – one with a poolside just next to the garden and the other one right on the beachfront with a beautiful restaurant all in white, typically Purobeach. I love their concept of well-being. Ana, a very friendly and helpful staff member in the beach club, says „We want our guests to completely relax, get away from it all. That`s why we do not even open on the very few days with bad weather. We want them to have a fantastic experience without disappointments.“ Well done, Ana!

Mandalas and cool Staff

Before enjoying the beach, I am having a splendid luncheon – monkfish with rice and a spicy sauce, simply to die for. The smoothies aren`t bad either - how about passion fruit juice with mint? Healthy and tasty at the same time. The Purobeach staff members are all dressed in crisp white linen, with that big Mandala on the back. Never heard that expression? A mandala is a circular figure representing the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism. It represents a dreamer`s search for completeness and self-unity. It is an essential part of the Purobeach brand – what a great match! The bartender Roberto looks so good that he could easily make it to the cover pages of international fashion magazines. But it appears that he prefers the nice life at Purobeach on the Algarve – who could blame him for that?

My suggestion: have a swim in the fresh water of the Atlantic, dry your skin on the sandy beach and enjoy a drink at Purobeach. Rest assured – life could not be any better!

For a little change, chill out at the Purobeach Poolside with its huge pool (and a Mandala right in the middle), a bar, patio restaurant, deck chairs and Balinese beds around it. Needless to say that (almost) everything is white here … and while you hang out at the poolside, you listen to the cool vibes of a DJ. Do I have to say more?

A few more Facts about the Tivoli Marina Vilamoura

Make sure to have a sundowner at the Canela bar with a splendid view over the marina and all its yachts. Even as an almost-vegetarian (I eat fish), I had dinner at the elegant „Pepper`s“ steakhouse. The sauteed shrimps and the veggie lasagna were awesome and so was the selection of Portuguese wines. Prices are … hmmm … reasonable. Service? 10 points out of 10, nothing else to be said. A wonderful breakfast buffet is served at „Chilli`s“ – make sure to have a detox smoothie before enjoying all the healthy (and unhealthy) breakfast goodies.

My stays at high-end hotels are never complete without a massage. The award-winning Tivoli Spa is a gem, with plants, a little waterfall, and edgy Asian-style furniture. Patricia gave me a signature body massage which was created for the Tivoli Hotels. A combination of massage and body stretching (I am always grateful for practicing yoga and being pretty flexible – in this case it helped a lot since she moved my legs and arms back and forth). Wondering how this tiny person can work my sour muscles so strongly. This feels good – thumbs up, Patricia!

My Opinion in short

In summary: the Tivoli Marina Vilamoura with the two Purobeach Clubs is just perfect for a relaxing beach holiday. During my stay in late April, I enjoyed mild temperatures (and a quick swim in the refreshing Atlantic) and not too many crowds. During the high season, this will change, of course. It gets pretty warm and busy during July and August … and the cool parties are said to be endless. The whole area is very clean and you will find all amenities you are looking for (except for culture). And a very relaxed lifestyle on top with friendly locals (I have not met anyone who did not speak English – bravo!). Wonder if I should have a look at real estate in that little paradise called Algarve.

How to get to the Tivoli Marina Vilamoura

A flight from Lisbon to Faro lasts less than one hour, best connections with TAP Air Portugal at reasonable rates. .

Many European charter airlines fly directly to Faro, the transfer to the hotel is about 30 minutes. Remember - taxis are not expensive in Portugal!
