Off to Rome!
After a few years, it was once again time for a trip to Rome, the longing place of my youth. With the elegant JK Place Roma, I found the perfect accommodation in the best location. Imposing sights like the Palazzo Borghese, the Piazza di Spagna with the Trinita dei Monti church, the Pantheon, and the chic shopping streets around the Via dei Condotti are all within easy walking distance. The extraordinary JK Place Roma, run by the charismatic Greek Maria Strati, is one of the Leading Hotels of the World. That says it all.
A Hotel like a private Luxury Villa
Like in a private house, you have to ring the bell at the entrance to access this small luxury hotel with only 27 rooms. Check-in takes place in the elegant lounge over a drink before you are shown to your room. I quickly glance at all the coffee-table books on display in the lobby and admire photos and miniature works of art. I feel like I'm in an extravagant, tastefully furnished Italian villa - lovely! I wonder why I haven't been to "Bella Italia" for so long - but never mind, now I'm here, I'm just going to enjoy it! At JK Place Roma, that will be very easy for me.
On this mild, sunny December day, I go for an afternoon walk and admire the elegant Christmas decorations in the narrow streets next to JK Place Roma. I walk along the Tiber to Castel Sant'Angelo, where there is a beautiful view of St. Peter's Basilica. Ah, Roma, you are simply a breathtaking beauty!
Charming Hostess
"There is no limit to serving our guests," says Maria Strati, the charming hostess at JK Place Roma. I got to know and appreciate this lady years ago during a stay at the Poseidonion Grand Hotel on the Greek island of Spetses. "This hotel is like a home - no gym, no spa, but with the warmth and luxury of a private villa. With us, celebrities also enjoy a private atmosphere that they appreciate very much." I did another interview with this internationally acclaimed manager, which can be read here on the blog in a few weeks.
Time for an Aperitivo
The day ends with an Italian "aperitivo" in the stylish lounge of JK Place Roma. Alongside champagne or a Signature cocktail, tempting little delicacies are served, so that I can safely skip dinner and enjoy "la dolce vita" in its most beautiful form on the first evening.
Delicacies at the JK Café Lounge & Bistrot
Breakfast at the chic JK Café is no less impressive. Camilla greets me with a beaming smile and hands me a menu. "Everything is à la carte here, so choose something delicious." It is so nice not to have a buffet in the morning. You can, of course, also enjoy your breakfast in your room. I order an espresso and a "healthy breakfast" with an omelet made of egg whites, various vegetables, and toast. There are little treats on the table to go with it. It should be mentioned in passing that the Italian espresso is strong but also the best I've had in a long time. A quick chat with the charming Camilla rounds off the perfect start to the day!
The JK Café is also available to guests for lunch or dinner. Here, chef Giordano Gianforchetti creates excellent gourmet meals in a refined setting. On Sundays, there is a roast for brunch, which can be shared with family or friends. The library is a great place to chill out with a book, and special corporate events like Tiffany are organized here.
Maria Strati has contacts with numerous companies, including in the luxury fashion sector. In collaboration with journalist Loredana Tartaglia, Maria has put together her newsletter with insider tips for the eternal city, which you can subscribe to here. It's worth it - you'll always be informed about the latest in Rome.
During my visit, I explored a few locations, such as the chic Blend Gallery. You will find out more about them in the coming weeks. Suppose you want to do something for your fitness, you can book a workout at the hotel reception at the small luxury gym Margutta Fitness (about a 10-minute walk from JK Place Roma).
JK Place Roma – discreet, exclusive and intimate
A word about the 27 rooms at JK Place Roma, all different but always elegantly furnished with wood paneling, architectural paintings, and bathrooms made of pearl-grey Carrara marble. I was particularly taken with the classy fittings. In your room, you have a complimentary minibar with soft drinks and snacks and 24 hours in-room dining. Needless to say that WiFi is complimentary (and working well) in all areas.
Some rooms are accessible via a lift that is furnished like a boudoir with pretty velvet benches and large mirrors. Some of the rooms on the third floor have a terrace with a beautiful view, where you can enjoy breakfast in a private atmosphere. By the way, a luxurious apartment complex is currently under construction and will probably be ready in a couple of years. I'm looking forward to it!
Here are a few practical tips for your trip to Rome:
The best time to travel to Rome
Due to its temperate climate, Rome is a year-round destination. However, it is better to avoid the high summer months. It is pretty hot in the city then, and the classic sights are overcrowded. Spring and autumn are certainly more pleasant; it is often still pleasantly mild and sunny into winter. Even in mid-December, it was still enjoyable. Rome is even more beautiful with its Christmas decorations than it already is.
Getting there
Fiumicino Leonardo da Vince Airport is 32 km from the centre of Rome and is served by numerous airlines (including ITA Airways, Vueling, Lufthansa, Eurowings, Ryanair). You can quickly get to the city by train. The Leonardo Express leaves every 15 minutes and reaches the central railway station (Stazione Termini) in 32 minutes. From there, it's best to take a taxi to JK Place Roma (costs approx. 20 EUR - as of December 2022) or take the metro.
Alternatively, you can take a taxi at the airport or order a shuttle directly from the hotel reception (110 EUR - as of December 2022).
On the Road in Rome
I did all my exploring in the Eternal City on foot and occasionally took a taxi (surprisingly cheap). If you don't mind the traffic, you can rent a fancy e-bike at JK Place Roma.
Otherwise, Rome has a well-developed public transport network; look here.
