The COMO Metropolitan London – an urban Sanctuary in downtown London
As much as I love London – the business trips can be pretty hectic. A long commute from Heathrow to downtown, never-ending meetings and usually a trip back home in the evening. This time I decided to extend my stay in this bustling city at the COMO Metropolitan London – what a smart decision! This cool hotel is located on Park Lane, overlooking the city`s green lung: Hyde Park. At the same time, you are not far from Oxford Street and very close to an elegant neighborhood with chic bars and restaurants. The COMO Metropolitan London has nothing to do with the traditional hotels in this area, such as the Hilton or the Four Seasons. It is rather a fresh and trendy upscale boutique hotel (opened in 1997, refurbished in 2015) with very friendly staff. The lobby is flooded with light, with clean white walls - uncluttered and contemporary. And yes, you could call it minimalist. A perfect place for people who prefer to stay in a calm and stylish hotel in downtown London.

Puristic and inviting at the same Time
A nice lady escorts me to my 47 sqm park suite (If you want more space, book one of the hotel`s three signature suites: Metropolitan, Penthouse or the COMO Suite ). Huge windows offer an incredible view to Hyde Park. Everything is minimalist but yet very comfy. No overloads of art or colors. Your eyes don`t get distracted. A perfect place to unwind after a long business day and just what I need after my meetings. Although it is almost needless to say – WiFi is working very well and free of charge. I always appreciate a Nespresso machine in the room and – surprise – the edible goodies in the minibar are hidden in a drawer ... all the little sins you can expect in a hotel but also lots of healthy stuff. After all, I am in a hotel that is catering to the well-being of its guests. – I decide to go for a quick workout in the well-equipped gym, followed by a little dinner and a relaxing walk in the Hyde Park before enjoying a wonderful sleep in my cosy bed. The next morning I discover yoga mats in my cupboard – how cool is that? There is even a TV channel for yoga and meditation. One of many reasons to come back.

A heavenly Breakfast at the Como Metropolitan
As usual, I take a lot of time for breakfast, the most important meal of the day for me. The NOBU restaurant on the first floor overlooks Hyde Park and there is no breakfast buffet. Instead, quite a few nice young ladies are serving you the most delicious breakfast items you can imagine. First I get a little cup with a greenish liquid. This smoothie is called „Lean and Clean Greens“ and supposed to build lean muscles, to boost energy and immunity and to bolster the detoxification system. Could one ask for anything else? What are the ingredients? Apple, fennel, cucumber, spinach, green pepper, celery, sunflower seeds, macadamia nuts and spirulina powder. Boy, can a day start any healthier? And guess what – this smoothie also tastes well!
I order fresh fruits, Greek yoghourt with fresh berries and granola, and poached eggs with avocado, beans, broccoli, and asparagus. I am really going green this morning - what an awesome start of the day. Everything is served with discretion, no rattle of dishes or other noise – I could stay here until lunch!

Those wild 90`s ...
Time to check out the other facilities of the COMO Metropolitan London, starting with the MET Bar. Well, what a history this place has. „In the 90s, the Met was THE A-List hangout, famous for wild parties and an exclusive members’ only bar“, says Kate Richards, the hotel`s elegant PR Manager who is a perfect ambassador for the COMO Metropolitan London. This place was frequented by the likes of Kate Moss, the Gallagher brothers, Naomi Campbell and good old Boris Becker. Well, Boris obviously liked this hotel so much that he quickly produced new blood in a cupboard. It took him years to admit that this little girl was his daughter ... anyways! Today, the MET Bar is still a cool but rather quiet place. And sure, you may spot a celebrity here and there but without all the noise of those wild 90s.

Not just a Spa – rather a holistic Experience
Well-being in all its senses is one of the key characteristics of the COMO Metropolitan London. Let`s check out if the slogan „If you stay with us, you feel better“ is justified. The spa is not just a spa. At the COMO Metropolitan London, you can enjoy a whole Asian holistic concept with all spectrums. Spa Manager Corinna knows everything about wellness and the concept of the COMO Hotels (13 properties worldwide with breathtaking resorts in exotic places such as Bali and the Maldives). I go for a 60-minute body massage, offered by a Romanian guy called Ilie. He works on every inch of my body and I feel totally rejuvenated after this treatment. Six different blends of oil are used and you can choose if you want them to calm you down or to uplift. „We mostly use spices instead of salt and processed food in our dishes“, explains Corinna. There is a yoga room in this awesome spa and you can reserve personal trainers for all needs, including „mind experts“ and energy healers. „Mindfulness is key for us. Body, mind and spirit need to be aligned.“ So true, dear Corinna.

Good Design and a Passionate Service
The whole concept was created by Christina Ong, the founder of the Como Group. This lady from Singapore was once known as the „Queen of Bond Street“ before she – luckily – decided to switch from fashion to hotel design. „The principles I am interested in remain in place: good design, passionate service, a commitment to really good food and wellness that makes a difference to one`s quality of life.“ I couldn`t agree more, Mrs. Ong. You find all that at COMO Metropolitan London.

No wonder that roughly 60% of the hotel clients are leisure travelers (although it also offers great meeting facilities). Best available rates start from GBP 405 (room only incl. VAT) for a Metropolitan City Room and from GBP 775 incl. VAT for the awesome Park Suite. During my stay, it was hard to find anything negative, so I can definitely recommend this place for your next city break in London.
